s of papers 47 tered via water, in preventing necrotic enteritis (NE) in broilers and reducing fecal bacteria. The NE challenge model included: 200,000 Eimeria acervulina oocysts/bird 5d and Clostridium perfringens (CP) 7d posthatch. Healthy, newly-hatched broiler male chicks (Ross x Cobb commercial source) were randomly placed into wire floor cages. Treatments included positive non-infected control (non-medicated), infected control (non-medicated), Aquatize r water treatment (0.05% or 1:2000 dilution) and feed medicated control (salinomycin 66 ppm and bacitracin 55 ppm) offered ad libitum at placement to 10 replicate cages (10 birds/rep, 100 birds/treatment). Birds were weighed on day 21 (end of trial). Broiler chicks receiving no treatment and CP infection had significantly (P< .05) lower body weights, feed conversion, and worse lesion scores than other treatment groups; therefore the model performed as expected. For the test groups receiving either Aquatize r via water or feed medication, performance criteria (body weight and feed conversion), skin pigmentation, mortality, and intestinal lesion scores were similar to the noninfected control. Additionally, Aquatize r resulted in significantly (P< .05) better 21-day intestinal lesion scores and better pigmentation than the feed medication test groups. As compared to infected control (nonmedicated), fecal bacteria counts decreased by 92% with Aquatize r , 11% with non-infected control (non-medicated), and 24% with feed medicated control. Both Aquatize r and feed medication (salinomycin 66 ppm and bacitracin 55 ppm) ameliorated the effect of Clostridium perfringens in broiler chickens reared to 21 days of age.

Broiler Performance in Response to Phytate and Supplemented Phytase

Phosphorus (P) is a macro mineral in broiler nutrition. In growing broilers, besides its requirement for proper bone development, it is also involved in almost all metabolic processes. Poor P availability results in decreased productivity and poor health status.Phosphorus availability from plant derived feeds is affected by an anti-nutritional factor “phytate”, which forms a variety of insolubl...

Protein digestibility evaluations of meat and fish substrates using laboratory, avian, and ileally cannulated dog assays.

Meat and fish serve as important protein sources in the companion animal diet; however, limited protein digestibility data are available for assessing protein digestibility differences among good-quality protein sources. Beef loin, pork loin, chicken breast, pollock fillet, and salmon fillet were evaluated for composition, protein digestibility, and AA bioavailability using the immobilized dige...

In vitro Evaluation of Different Substitution Levels of Soybean Meal by Guar Meal in a Fattening Diet for Lambs

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the replacement effect of soybean meal (SBM) at different levels (0 as D1, 33 as D2, 67 as D3 and 100% as D4 based on crude protein (CP) content) by guar meal (GM) on ruminal gas production kinetics, ruminal digestibility and fermentation characteristics of a fattening diet for lambs. Three experiments were conducted. The first experiment of 144-h in...

Effects of Canola Bioactive Peptides on Performance, Digestive Enzyme Activities, Nutrient Digestibility, Intestinal Morphology and Gut Microflora in Broiler Chickens

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of canola bioactive peptides (CBP) produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of canola meal on performance, digestive enzyme activity, nutrient digestibility, gut microflora and intestinal morphology of broiler chickens. A total of 250 one-day-old Ross 308 male broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 5 dietary treatments with 5 replicates of 10 ...

Chemical composition, protein quality, palatability, and digestibility of alternative protein sources for dogs.

The chemical composition and protein quality of 11 alternative protein sources (chicken products, blood products, enzyme-hydrolyzed fish protein concentrate, soybean meal, and spray-dried pork liver) were determined, and an experiment was conducted to determine palatability and digestibility of processed red blood cell-containing diets. Chicken protein sources differed in concentrations of CP, ...

High Levels of Monensin to Mid Lactating Dairy Cows: Nutrient Digestibility, Ruminal Fermentation and Microbial Protein Synthesis

The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutrient digestibility, ruminal fermentation and microbial protein synthesis of mid-lactating cows fed high dietary levels of monensin. Twelve Holstein cows were distributed into four 3 × 3 latin squares and assigned to the following treatments: control (CON), monensin 24 (M24, addition of 24 mg monensin/kg diet DM) and monensin 48 (M48, addition of 48 ...
